June was born in Ada, Oklahoma in 1936, the daughter of Ludie Elmer Davis and Martha Belle (Billie) Whitley Davis Ross. Her dad and mom divorced when she was an toddler, and Billie opened a diner known as Tillie and Billie’s Café on South Robinson in Oklahoma Metropolis along with her brother, Tillmon. It was there that Billie met James Dorris (Jim) Ross, and the couple had been married in 1938.
