CBS Outbids Amazon for Large UEFA Media Rights Deal


UEFA reached a U.S. media rights cope with CBS, Viacom and Paramount on Friday for its membership tournaments, together with the Champions League.

The six-year deal is price $1.5 billion complete, calculating to $250 million per season. CBS and its companions outbid Amazon for the media rights deal. Amazon at the moment owns the rights to the UK, Germany and Italy markets.

“UEFA has been a key driver for Paramount+ since our launch and we’re thrilled to increase this profitable partnership showcasing much more world-class soccer by way of the 2029-30 season,” CBS mentioned in an announcement, via Sports Business Journal.

Although Amazon did reportedly make a bid for the U.S. media rights, it’s believed that the corporate is focusing its American market with its inaugural Thursday Evening Soccer NFL broadcasts this 12 months, per The Athletic.
