Lorry driver investigated after steel plates fall from car, inflicting jam at KPE entrance


SINGAPORE: The police are investigating the motive force of a lorry after steel plates fell from the car and triggered a site visitors jam at an entrance to the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE) on Monday (Oct 24).

Site visitors on a slip highway resulting in the expressway was blocked by the steel plates, resulting in a 30-minute jam, a Land Transport Authority (LTA) spokesperson advised CNA on Friday.

LTA was alerted to the incident on the Nicoll Freeway entrance to the KPE in direction of the Tampines Expressway at round 4.45pm on Monday. 

LTA’s car restoration providers and site visitors marshals had been dispatched to analyze, they usually discovered that the steel plates had rendered the highway impassable. 

The slip highway was instantly closed off and autos had been guided away from the world, the spokesperson added. 

“Preliminary evaluation was that the steel plates might have fallen off from a lorry and this was confirmed when the motive force of the lorry subsequently returned to the incident website with lifting gear to retrieve the steel plates,” the spokesperson mentioned. 

Footage of the incident circulating on-line confirmed a protracted line of autos caught in a jam on the slip highway. Photos posted on social media confirmed a number of steel plates on the highway, blocking the motion of autos. 

The slip highway was closed for about seven hours to facilitate repairs because the fallen steel plates had broken the highway floor. 

It reopened to site visitors at midnight after localised resurfacing works had been accomplished. 

“LTA wish to take this chance to remind drivers of products autos to verify that their load is correctly secured earlier than shifting off to make sure the protection of all highway customers,” the spokesperson mentioned. 

The police added that no accidents had been reported. Investigations are ongoing.
