Duval Faculties tells lecturers to ‘cowl or retailer’ books

Duval lecturers say they’re being instructed to “cowl or retailer” classroom libraries they’ve used for years to complement their college students’ studying.

In what seems to be an inner coaching video obtained by WJCT Information, the district’s chief educational officer, Paula Renfro, tells lecturers to quickly pull books from school rooms. Duval Faculties confirmed to WJCT Information on Friday that the video was despatched to principals to share with employees earlier this week.

“Books not on the district-approved listing or not authorized by certificated media specialists have to be lined or saved and paused for pupil use,” Renfro says in the video, explaining that the district is attempting to adjust to new state legal guidelines proscribing schoolbooks.

On Monday, the district announced it was conducting a proper assessment of classroom libraries in response to a Florida legislation that took impact final summer time making it simpler for folks to contest books.
