White substances discovered at Christian, Catholic buildings in Singapore over 2 days


SINGAPORE: White substances had been discovered individually on the Catholic Centre on Wednesday (Jan 18) and the Bible Home on Tuesday, in accordance with the Singapore Civil Defence Pressure (SCDF).

The Catholic Centre is run by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore and Bible Home by the Bible Society of Singapore.

SCDF mentioned it was alerted to an incident on the Catholic Centre venue at 55 Waterloo Avenue at about 9.55am on Jan 18.

“Some white substances had been discovered on the premises,” mentioned a spokesperson.

SCDF hazardous supplies (HazMat) specialists, sporting private protecting tools, retrieved a number of the substances and carried out a number of checks.

No dangerous substances had been detected.

In response to CNA’s queries, a spokesperson for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Singapore mentioned: “We perceive that the police and SCDF are investigating the report made on the Catholic Centre in Waterloo Avenue this morning.

“We’re unable to make an announcement right now,” he added.

In an analogous incident on Tuesday, SCDF mentioned it was alerted at about 12.40pm to the Bible Home premises at 7 Armenian Avenue, the place white substances had been discovered.

A number of the substances had been retrieved by SCDF officers as a pattern, and several other checks had been carried out by HazMat specialists.

As with the Catholic Centre incident, no dangerous substances had been detected.
