Crews trying to find house owner after hearth reduces house to rubble


PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Firefighters are looking by way of rubble Tuesday afternoon after a fireplace destroyed a house in Putnam County.

A Putnam County deputy was first on scene Tuesday as fierce flames consumed a house on Harmons Creek Highway.

Shortly after the deputy arrived, officers say the roof of the house collapsed.

Firefighters stated they had been uncertain if the house owner was house on the time of the fireplace, so crews shortly started looking the scene.

Flames diminished the house to ash and rubble.

The Hearth Marshal has been referred to as to help within the investigation.
