Horry County Faculties e-book coverage sparks issues for some dad and mom, workers


HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – For Horry County Faculties, selecting what books are allowed into faculty libraries was once left as much as librarians.

Now, faculty principals will choose members of the committees who get determine what books are allowed at school libraries.

These committees will embody the college library specialist, an administrator, a trainer representing core content material, an tutorial coach and 4 dad and mom who’re serving on the Mum or dad Council, Advisory Board, Faculty Enchancment Council or PTO Board.

At present, the district has 5 books which are on a restricted entry record which all embody subjects of sexuality and the LGBTQ Plus Neighborhood.

At Monday’s Horry County Faculties Committee assembly, dad and mom and workers expressed their opinions on this 2015 policy, which was only recently revisited and accepted, final week.

Some dad and mom like Govt Director of the American Civil Liberties Union, Jace Woodrum, stated Horry County Faculty’s new e-book coverage is a loss for colleges and college students.
