Siobhán Cullen to steer Irish darkish comedy crime drama ‘Obituary’, coproduced by Megamedia, APC Studios For Hulu – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: APC Studios UK and Irish unbiased manufacturing firm Magamedia are co-producing Irish darkish comedy-crime drama Obituary completely within the U.S. for streaming service Hulu, with RTÉ in Ireland pre-buying the sequence.

Irish TV and theatre actress Siobhán Cullen, whose current credit embody household comedy-drama The Dry and crime drama The Lengthy Name, stars as Elvira Clancy, an obituarist working at a small-town newspaper, who abruptly finds herself being paid by the obituary because of cuts.

When she “unintentionally” kills a nasty piece of labor, she discovers she may need an untapped bloodlust, and units her sights on different disagreeable residents of the city. Her killing spree hits a possible snag when the paper hires a pretty crime correspondent.

The six-part sequence is written by Irish scriptwriter Ray Lawlor (Le Ceangal), directed by John Hayes (Dublin Murders, Bancroft) and produced by Nell Inexperienced (The Outfit, The Undeclared Battle).

APC Studios’ Laurent Boissel and Magamedia’s Paddy Hayes are government producers of the sequence which is being made in affiliation with Fís Éireann/ Display screen Eire, BAI and The Wrap Fund.

“It has been a blast pitching this excellent high-concept drama to varied funders and broadcast companions over the previous few years — an obituarist who resorts to homicide to remain in a job,” they stated in a joint assertion.

“We’re genuinely thrilled that Hulu and RTE are already on board and it’s tremendous thrilling to be bringing it into manufacturing now within the West of Eire,” stated Boissel and Hayes.

Obituary goes into manufacturing in Eire in 2023 and can completely premiere on Hulu within the U.S. later that 12 months.

It marks the most recent Irish drama sequence to draw U.S. funding, coming after Lionsgate boarded TG4 and Streamz drama sequence Northern Lights, as Deadline revealed on the time.

Cullen is at the moment filming Bodkin for Netflix, following a critically acclaimed run alongside Ralph Fiennes in Straight Line Loopy at The Bridge Theatre.
