Carnival Extends Air Lubrication Tech to Extra Ships

Cruise operator Carnival Company is to rollout air lubrication methods throughout the majoriity of its fleet, the corporate has stated.

Air lubrication runs airstreams alongside a ship’s hull to cut back drag. The corporate expects the drag to fall by 5% per ship as soon as the gear is up and operating.

The corporate stated it’s placing the know-how (the Silverstream System ALS) on 5 ships with 10 extra installations within the pipeline. Additional forward, the programme will widen to incorporate extra ships and run by to 2027. 

“The growth plans construct on the success of 4 methods presently operation on ships from its AIDA Cruises and Princess Cruises manufacturers,” Carnival Corp stated.

The corporate been working with ALS technology since 2016.
