AVS probes alleged assault by massive pet canine on small pooch throughout stroll


The Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) is probing an alleged assault on a 3kg pooch by a bigger canine not less than 10 occasions its weight throughout a night stroll.

The maltipoo – a cross between a maltese and toy poodle – suffered accidents that required surgical procedure and intensive care in a veterinary hospital. Some $20,000 in therapy prices have been incurred thus far, stated proprietor Jennifer Fan.

She stated her maltipoo, named Milo, was attacked by an Alaskan malamute throughout a stroll together with her helper on Sept 19 in Namly Avenue between 7pm and seven.30pm.

Neighbours alerted Ms Fan, 50, a fund supervisor, who lived close by.

She stated the malamute’s proprietor had signalled for her helper to stroll previous them and that the helper hesitated at first, given the dimensions of the opposite canine.

When the helper determined to proceed strolling, the malamute lunged in the direction of the maltipoo, a three-year-old male, once they acquired nearer.

“My helper collapsed in trauma and neighbours referred to as an ambulance for her. My maltipoo was in ICU on the vet hospital for greater than every week,” stated Ms Fan.

“His left kidney was severed and he wanted two operations earlier than his discharge after 11 days of excessive dependency care.”

The malamute’s handler accompanied Ms Fan and Milo to the veterinary hospital, remaining there until about 2am.

Milo is now recovering effectively, stated Ms Fan.

The malamute, a heavy canine identified for its energy, is the state canine of Alaska in america.

Ms Fan stated AVS officers interviewed her helper on Oct 27.
