Escambia County colleges speak books, Warrington throughout triple workshops

West Florida High School Innovation Specialist Linda Quinn and Principal Esi Shannon discuss the placement of restricted books in the school's media center on Monday, Oct. 3, 2022.

The Escambia County Public Schools faculty board hosted a string of workshops final week in preparation for Tuesday’s month-to-month assembly.

Amid ongoing controversy over the place to attract the road on book restrictions, one faculty board member instructed giving the superintendent authority to veto e book bans.

Moreover, the board has began hashing out what the method of transitioning Warrington Middle into a charter school would possibly seem like.

Though no official motion was taken throughout these workshops, the discussions might inform what occurs within the board’s subsequent common assembly Tuesday.

Guide restrictions

Because the checklist of books under restriction in Escambia County schools continues to develop — and the Bible being briefly removed from school bookshelves following content objections — District 1 Board Member Kevin Adams was adamant about growing a system for Superintendent Tim Smith to veto a e book from being banned.
