Letter: Bartenders and farmers are what US politics wants

Jorge Alberto Chico’s letter (October 5) suggests conspiracy theorists will proceed to dominate American politics so long as the highest 10 per cent of earnings earners “stay uninvolved within the political course of”.

I’m unsure if Chico was trolling us all, however some fast analysis confirms my suspicion. Of the 117th US Congress, 96 per cent of its members have been school educated. One of the best represented professions are regulation, enterprise and “public service”. For a while the median internet price of a consultant within the Home has been about $800,000, and within the Senate between $1.5mn and $3mn.

That compares to about $120,000 or much less for common People (apart from simply earlier than the 2008 crash). What Chico calls the “institution”— the rich, the educated — are the conspiracy theorists, even when they’re solely feigning outrage.

The true drawback is that small minorities of centrists and extremists have far an excessive amount of affect on American politics. Neither training nor wealth make you proof against conspiracy theories. So, getting extra leftist bartenders (Chico mentions Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) or conservative farmers concerned would enhance American politics excess of but extra attorneys and businesspeople.
