The fierce ladies of Yuck Circus are again at Melbourne Fringe, cobbers! Because of that pandemic, they’ve been unable to tour for some time. So, they’ve drawn inspiration from our dwelling, Ostraya, in composing their newest present: Deadset.
The present takes place in a brand new venue for Melbourne Fringe – the Magic Mirror Spiegeltent – which seems suitably old-timey with its mirrored pillars and stained glass, however probably isn’t. Nonetheless, the home can accommodate a stage of appropriate peak, so all punters ought to get an honest view, despite the fact that the entrance rows of seating are flat.
The 2019 Melbourne Fringe present from Yuck Circus had moments that have been memorably blokey or humorously inelegant. While we proceed on this vein in Deadset, we get extra circus methods, alongside the energy, character work, and choreographed group routines which helped the corporate stand out of their final outing.
The present features a hoop sequence from a formidable mimic of Kim Day (from Kath and Kim), rollerskating in tribute to an Aussie meals icon, hassle within the bush, and a few manic work on ribbons. Round 6.00pm is probably a little bit early for such a bogan tribute. However it could be downright un-Australian to overlook an excellent piss-take. So, be an actual Aussie, and skive off work early so you will get a drink in earlier than the present.
