Sweater sale raises money for LaFayette Outreach Food Pantry

If you happen to be in LaFayette for the Apple Festival this weekend, you may also want to take advantage of a clothing sale to help a good cause. The Columbian Presbyterian Church will hold its sixth annual “Great Five Dollar Sweater Sale.”

The church collects clothing donations all year long for the Saint Pauly Textile group, which resells items around the world. The church sets aside numerous items like sweaters, jackets and boots to hold this sale to raise money for the LaFayette Outreach Food Pantry.

“A lot of people are hurting. We’ve had a pandemic. There are people out of jobs. There are people trying to get jobs,” said Columbian Presbyterian Church Secretary Marla Jabbour. “For $5, we’ve got kids’ snow suits; we’ve got kids’ jackets; we’ve got kids’ boots. This is not about making a lot of money – although we do want to make money for Outreach – this is about satisfying a need in the community.”

The church is also selling apple pies this weekend.

The Columbian Presbyterian Church is on the corner of Routes 20 and 11 in LaFayette. The sale will take place Friday from 6-8 p.m. It will also take place on Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday from noon-4 p.m.
