Nobel Peace Prize awards activists pushing for human rights in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus

The Nobel Peace Prize on Friday was awarded to human rights advocate Ales Bialiatski of Belarus, Russian human rights group Memorial and the Ukrainian human rights group Middle for Civil Liberties, with the Norwegian Nobel Committee saying they “signify civil society of their residence international locations” and have “promoted the proper to criticize energy and shield the elemental rights of residents.”

“They’ve made an impressive effort to doc warfare crimes, human rights abuses and the abuse of energy,” the committee mentioned in an announcement. “Collectively they exhibit the importance of civil society for peace and democracy.”
