Celebrity chef Sara Moulton to dish on her mentor Julia Child at Greenwich Library event
Out there … The Greenwich Library will feature a showing of the 2021 documentary, “Julia,” which chronicles the life of renowned chef Julia Child through never-before-seen archival footage and photos, and first-person accounts, on Friday at 7 p.m. Afterward, stay for a Q&A with Julia Child’s protégée and celebrity chef Sara Moulton, executive chef of Gourmet magazine, food editor of “Good Morning America,” and cookbook author. Scene … Greenwich resident Charles “Chuck” Royce, an investment executive and chairman of Royce Investment Partners, will be granted the Greenwich Historical Society’s David Ogilvy Preservation Award for his dedication to historic preservation and revitalization at the Historical Society’s annual meeting at the Riverside Yacht Club on Wednesday. Greenwich resident Peter Malkin, a longtime supporter of the Greenwich Historical Society whose family operates Empire State Realty Trust and Malkin Holdings in New York City, will present the award to Royce as well as interview Royce in a fireside-chat format about his remarkable record in preservation regionally and throughout the country. The David Ogilvy Preservation Award was instituted by the Historical Society to honor major accomplishments dedicated to the advancement of historic preservation. The Avon is a thriving cinema today, screening art-house and independent films, and its success was the first of a number of preservation projects that Royce, an investment executive and chairman of Royce Investment Partners, and his wife, an actress and novelist, have undertaken over the past two decades.
Scene … Former Riverside resident, “Today” host, author and producer Kathie Lee Gifford has some new projects in the working. The Emmy Award-winning author/singer has produced a new musical production, “The Way,” and book, “The God of the Way: A Journey into the Stories, People, and Faith That Changed the World Forever,” which she co-wrote with Rabbi Jason Sobel, spiritual adviser and host of “The Chosen Unveiled” on TBN. The movie narrated by Gifford is accompanied by the Nashville Symphony and artists including Nicole C. Mullen, Danny Gokey, Jimmie Allen, Larry Gatlin and BeBe Winans.
Out there … The Fifth Annual DART to The Finish Charity Walk to benefit NPC (Niemann-Pick) takes place on Sept. 24 at 8 a.m. at Greenwich Point in Old Greenwich. The 2-mile walk around Tod’s Point will help raise much needed funds to find a cure for Niemann-Pick type C disease. Beach passes are not needed. Dana’s Angels Research Trust was founded in 2002 by Andrea and Phil Marella of Greenwich. To date, DART has raised more than $6 million to benefit the search for a better treatment and an ultimate cure for NPC, a rare disease that is often referred to as childhood Alzheimer’s. Scene … Brunswick School’s Burke Field House on King Street in Greenwich will host Greenwich United Way’s Brew Ha Ha on Sept. 23, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Greenwich’s own comedian Jane Condon will emcee the event headlined by comedian/actress Kelly MacFarland. MacFarland has appeared on Comedy Central, NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” Hulu’s “Up Early Tonight,” the “Today” show” and “The View” to name a few. The evening will feature outdoor drinks and dining provided by Road Grub Mobile, El Chilito, Latusion, Greek Style Grill, Jackie’s Pizza the Pie, Joey B’s, Cisco Brewers, Owl’s Brew and a wine bar sponsored by Greenwich Firefighters Local 1042.
