U.N. chief to journey to Pakistan to see ‘local weather disaster’

UNITED NATIONS, Aug 30 (Reuters) – U.N. Secretary-Common Antonio Guterres will journey to Pakistan subsequent week following historic lethal flooding to see “the areas most impacted by this unprecedented local weather disaster,” a U.N. spokesperson mentioned on Tuesday.

Guterres is anticipated to reach in Islamabad on Sept. 9 and return to New York on Sept. 11, U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric mentioned.

Unprecedented flash floods brought on by historic monsoon rains have washed away roads, crops, infrastructure and bridges, killing no less than 1,100 folks in current weeks and affecting greater than 33 million, over 15% of Pakistan’s 220 million inhabitants. read more
