Rabid bat present in Lake County, well being officers say
LAKE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – In keeping with Lake County Well being officers, a bat present in Kirtland was not too long ago confirmed to be rabid.
That is the primary rabid bat present in Lake County since 2020, based on the Ohio Division of Well being.
A Geauga County resident who had contact with the rabid bat has began post-exposure prophylaxis.
“Within the case of a recognized publicity to a bat, or if a bat is found in the home whereas residents are sleeping, the bat needs to be rigorously captured and the Well being District contacted to find out if the bat needs to be examined,” stated Bert Mechenbier, Environmental Well being Supervisor with the Lake County Basic Well being District.
Mechenbier added there’s a necessary rabies vaccination for all canines, cats and ferrets over 4 months of age.
