New York-based unscripted prodco Magilla Leisure (Moonshiners, Jailhouse Redemption) is partnering with heavy metallic singer/songwriter and Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider to develop a brand new documentary collection, The Filthy Fifteen: Censorship & the Conflict on Soiled Lyrics (w/t).

The collection will discover the bitter censorship battle between the Mother and father Music Useful resource Middle (PMRC) and a variety of musicians within the mid-1908s that infamously culminated in hearings earlier than the U.S. Senate.

In 1985, Tipper Gore, spouse of then-U.S. Senator Al Gore, together with a bunch of different outstanding wives of politicians created the PMRC with the purpose of accelerating parental consciousness of music that contained express content material. The group recognized 15 songs they discovered probably the most objectionable, and amongst “The Filthy Fifteen” was Snider and Twisted Sister’s anthem “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” alongside hits of the day from Mötley Crüe, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Prince, Madonna and Cyndi Lauper.

The PMRC sought to create a ranking system for music, just like the MPAA, to warn shoppers of lyrical content material that includes intercourse, violence or “the occult.” On the eventual congressional hearings in Washington D.C., the unlikely trio of Snider, Frank Zappa and John Denver would testify on behalf of the music trade.

The docuseries options never-before-seen footage and unique interviews with artists, politicians and others, wanting on the musicians and songs that discovered themselves included on the PMRC’s “Filthy Fifteen” — a playlist of what the group thought of probably the most offensive music on the time — and reflecting on the hearings’ lasting influence on music, popular culture and free speech.

Govt producing The Filthy Fifteen: Censorship & the Conflict on Soiled Lyrics for Magilla Leisure will probably be Magilla co-founder Matthew Ostrom, Laura Palumbo Johnson and Jason Fox, alongside Snider and Ron Starrantino. Magilla and Snider are at the moment procuring the venture.
