From Geek’d Con to freaky motion pictures, this is what’s taking place in Shreveport
Shreveport is heading into a busy season with schools starting back and festival season just around the corner. Check out all of the events happening around town to keep your weekend calendar full with conventions, movies and more.
Friday, August 19
- Friday Night Freakout at the Robinson Film Center – Come out to RFC to watch the 1988 science fiction film “They Live” about a homeless drifter who comes to LA in search of a job when he witnesses a preacher warning that “they” will influence our decisions, numb our sense and control our lives. The movie starts at 10 p.m. and RFC is located at 617 Texas St. in Shreveport.
- The Little Dog Laughed at the Marjorie Lyons Playhouse – Stage Center will be putting on their third production in their “Left of Center” series with “The Little Dog Laughed.” The dark comedy play follows a Hollywood star aiming for the A-list but his “pesky recurring case of homosexuality” keeps getting in the way. This biting and timely comedy takes aim at the entertainment industry, sex, sexuality and how happy endings “should” look. - Geek’d Con on the Shreveport Conference Middle – Throw in your favourite costume and head over to fulfill the celebs of “Scream” and extra at this years Geek’d Con. For the complete lineup, buy tickets and extra go to the Geek’d Con website. The conference can be 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday. The Shreveport Conference Middle is positioned at 400 Caddo St. in Shreveport.
- Centenary in Paris Opening Reception on the R.W. Norton Artwork Gallery – The annual Centenary in Paris expertise is a scholar success program wrapped in a fully-funded all-inclusive worldwide studying bundle. - Mayoral Discussion board introduced by PACE at LSU Shreveport – The mayoral candidates will reply questions on problems with explicit curiosity to the LGBTQ+ neighborhood, their households and allies by a moderator.
